Performance

While the carbon pre-filter captures common household odors, up to 99.97% of airborne particles and allergens as small as 0.3 microns from the air are passed through the filter and the unit also helps to reduce airborne germs such as mold spores, fungus, bacteria, and viruses. In addition to capturing large particles such as dust and hair, the activated carbon pre-filter also deodorizes the air and reduces common household odor caused by cooking, smoking or pets. Though, the Honeywell HPA 300 air purifier’s functionality lacks some key components, such as impressive filters, and key features, such as an air-quality sensor.

Design

Although large room air purifiers tend to be loud, this unit is an exception to this rule, as it has a manageable noise level, convenient side handles that make it easy to carry and move around and an interesting design. The Honeywell HPA 300 comes in black color, with a metallic design, a 23” height and an approximate weight of 8 kg and it is perfect for large rooms up to 465 square feet.

Features

Filter selection is very important for this home air purifier to work properly. With the right air filters, it will offer great allergen removal and good odor reduction, but for this unit to properly control gas and odor problems, you have to buy a special pre-filter, because only one of the two pre-filters is designed for gas and odor removal, and it is more expensive.
The HPA 300 uses an activated Carbon Prefilter to reduce unpleasant odors and to capture airborne germs. The easy tap electronic controls, the air cleaning levels plus Turbo Clean setting and the 2, 4, and 8-hour timer make this unit a very efficient and easy to handle one.

Ease of use

The Honeywell HPA 300 has three air cleaning levels, so you can easily adjust the airflow through the filter, but it does not have an air-quality sensor that would automatically adjust these levels. It also has an operation timer which allows you to set the unit to work for 2, 4 or 8 hours and after each cycle, the air purifier will enter a sleep mode which allows you to save energy. The filter monitor lets you know when you have to change the filters, namely the included HEPA filters that need to be replaced one per year and the carbon pre-filter which must be replaced every 3 months for the device to work properly. It comes with a five-year warranty and a Honeywell professional support.

Pros

Carbon pre-filter removes unpleasant odors
Able to tackle particles as small as 0.3 microns
Can remove up to 99.97% of airborne particles
Recommended for areas of up to 465 square feet
Easy to use due to electronic controls
Features an operation timer
Backed up by a 5-year warranty

Cons

No air-quality sensor
Filters are of a mediocre quality
Gas and odor removal pre-filter must be purchased separately

As you have already understood if you have read the rest of the review, it’s a great performing unit that is reliable and that can handle removing the smallest of particles with ease, thus being ideal for those who truly care for their health. It’s the magnificent operation of this air purifier that recommends it for those who suffer from allergies or asthma, and for those who own pets as well. It does a great job in removing both pet hair and pet dander from the air, so you can use it to deal with the hair your cat leaves around the house.

How often do I need to change the filters on this model?

    • Karen Coleman says:

Hello, Charles. The filters will probably need to be replaced every 6 months but you won’t have to worry about this aspect because the air purifier will alert you when it’s time to do this. Just check the light indicators on the control panel to see which one of the filters needs to be removed.
