Technical Specifications

Air purifiers from the Blueair 500 series are suitable for large rooms where their rather bulky form and loudness (at maximum speed) would be less noticeable. The 503 model specifically covers 580 sq. ft. of space and purifies air using HEPASilent technology, which combines a HEPA-type filter, a SmokeStop filter, and electrostatic filtration. It features four speed settings, a clean air delivery rate (CADR) rating of 375 CFM, and a noise output range of 32 to 66 dB. Finally, the 503 consumes between 35W to 120W of power.

Performance

The Blueair 503 is an air purifier that promises excellent results in terms of reducing indoor allergens and odors. Its 375 CFM ratings for dust, pollen, and smoke attest to this. To filter out particles, the HEPA-type filter works with electrostatic filtration. Meanwhile, the SmokeStop Filter traps odors and gasses like VOCs and smoke. Boasting SurroundAir technology, Blueair also emphasizes air intake by designing the 503 to take in air from three different sides to maximize airflow and avoid drafts.

Features

The only notable special feature offered by the Blueair 503 is its magnetic filter timer. Coming as a separate device with a magnetic backing, the filter timer can be attached to frequently-visited areas in your home (such as the refrigerator) for maximum visibility. It displays the precise number of days you have left before the filters in the 503 needs replacing, which is great if you’re the type who hates surprises.

Design

The Blueair 503 is visually pleasing thanks to its Swedish design, but it does look dated compared to its more contemporary rivals. Available in dark gray and housed in a steel casing, this air purifier shouldn’t find it too hard to blend in many types of environment.

This model does take up a lot of space, though, with its 26” x 20” x 13” dimensions. Moving it around can be difficult as well, considering that it weighs a whopping 35 lbs. Although the air purifier is easy to use with its four-speed control knob, it lacks electronic buttons and an LED screen.

Warranty and Support

The Blueair 503 comes with a one-year warranty. This warranty period is relatively short for an air purifier, which makes it one of the 503’s biggest negatives. On the other hand, Blueair is known to have multiple customer support channels since it is a popular brand. With that said, they’re easy to contact through the media listed on their website.

Final Thoughts

Boasting both mechanical and electrostatic purification methods and a coverage area of up to 580 square feet, the Blueair 500 Series: Model 503 is a decent air purifier for people who are battling indoor pollution issues, but it’s not the most modern air purifier in terms of design, user experience, and features.
